    Trauma Counselling in Hereford

Support for living with the after-effects of a traumatic experience.

    What Trauma Can Look Like

Trauma isn't only what happened to you — it's what you were left carrying afterwards. You might feel on edge, unable to relax, or jumpy over small things. Memories, images or dreams can come back unbidden, or you may feel numb and detached instead. Some people carry this from a single event; others from a long stretch of difficult experiences, often beginning in childhood.

These reactions are normal responses to something abnormal, not a sign that something is wrong with you. They usually make more sense once they're looked at directly, and that's often where things begin to shift.

    How Counselling Can Help

You don't need to relive every detail, and you won't be asked to. As your counsellor, I'll follow your pace — what matters is that you feel safe enough in the room to say what you want to say, and to stop whenever you need to.

Over time, counselling can make these memories less raw and less intrusive, so that what happened sits in the past rather than feeling like it's still happening. Working with a psychotherapist also helps with the practical aftermath: the sleep, the avoidance, and the trust in yourself and other people that trauma tends to wear down.

    How Therapy Can Help

    • Understand how what happened is still affecting you now
    • Find ways to feel calmer and more grounded day to day
    • Work through memories and feelings when you're ready, not before
    • Question the beliefs about yourself that formed at the time
    • Sleep better and feel less on guard
    • Rebuild trust — in yourself, and in other people
